What to Bring
Planning for your Astronomy Tour / Cancellations
All astronomy tours are weather dependent. When potential weather issues arise, Earth Sanctuary will continue to update you with weather reports. This may involve updates up until 5pm on the day. Where visibility is poor, this can result in a tour cancellation and a subsequent refund be provided. Cancellations made not less than 72 hours prior to the program commencement will receive a full refund.
We look forward to seeing you under the full Moon at Earth Sanctuary.

Earth Sanctuary Astronomy Guides
With almost 20 years field experience under the spectacular skies of Central Australia, Earth Sanctuary’s guides are skilled communicators in astronomy. We continue to make complex scientific concepts fun and easy to grasp whilst providing holistic views on the significance of the night sky to different cultures throughout history.
The Artist Expedition Society
The Artist Expedition Society (AES) takes artists and designers outdoors. We facilitate creative experiences designed to help you consider the relationships you have to place, nature, and the designed environment. Lessons in sustainability and an environmental resonance will naturally seep into your consciousness as you experience the outdoors by observing it. You don’t need to have any experience with art to enjoy an AES experience.
Founded by Anna Dakin during her time at The Royal College of Art in London, The Artist Expedition Society offers well thought through creative experiences that are bound to leave you with creative inspiration for months.
About your Art Workshop
At night our vision is reduced from colour to black and white. We literally cannot see colour at night, just tone.
In this workshop, you will be taught the principles of painting at night with a limited pallet. The painting process usually involves selecting from a complex colour pallet, but at night, it is all about tone. Before it gets dark, participants must choose a base colour – dark blue is recommended.
As we observe the landscape by moonlight and document what we see on paper, our senses tune in to something beyond vision. Sound, smell, and the movement of the wind all begin to influence our experiences of the night, and our paintings. This workshop is BYO painting equipment. If you need to buy anything, there is a 10% discount at Jackson’s Art Shop for those coming to Artist Expedition Society events.
